Belgian   -   Gratin Of Pearl Onions   adapted from Everybody Eats Well In Belgium

  • Salt And Pepper -- to taste
  • Nutmeg -- to taste
  • 1 Pound Pearl Onions
  • 1/4 Cup Half And Half
  • 1/2 Cup Gruyere Cheese -- grated
Directions Bring a large pot of salted water to boil. Add onions, reduce heat and simmer for 15 minutes. Drain and refresh under cold running water. Peel and discard the skins. Butter a shallow ovenproof dish thats just large enough to hold the onions. Toss the onions with the cream in the buttered dish. Season with salt, pepper and nutmeg. Preheat the broiler. Sprinkle the grated cheese over the onion and broil until the the cheese is nicely browned. Serve.
