Brazilian - Carioca Lemon Spice Cake

Ingredients

- 1/2 Cup Butter
- 1/2 Cup Brown Sugar
- 4 Medium Eggs -- Separate Out Yolks
- 1/2 Teaspoon Ginger
- 1 Teaspoon Cinnamon
- 1 Teaspoon Mace
- 2 Tablespoons Lemon Juice
- 2 1/4 Cups All-Purpose Flour
- 1/2 Teaspoon Salt
- 1 Tablespoon Baking Powder
- 1 Cup Stout Beer -- Room Temperature
- 3/4 Cup Molasses
- 1 Teaspoon Baking Soda

Directions
|
cream together the butter, , sugar, egg yolks, ginger, cinnamon, mace, and lemon juice. Sift together flour, salt, baking powder, add beer molasses and soda to flour, then stir together the butter mixture with the flour mixture. Fold in stifly beaten egg whites, Pour into two, greased, 9 inch cake pans. Bake 35 minutes in 350 degree oven.
