Burmese - Kalapei Hincho (Yellow Split Pea Soup)

Ingredients

- 2 Cups Yellow Split Peas
- 3 Tablespoons Olive Oil
- 1 Medium Onion -- Chopped
- 3 Cloves Garlic -- Chopped
- 1/2 Teaspoon Turmeric
- 6 Cups Chicken Broth
- 1 Medium Bay Leaf
- 1 Tablespoon Cumin
- 1/2 Teaspoon Coriander
- 1/2 Teaspoon Cardamom
- 1/2 Teaspoon Paprika
- 1 Tablespoon Black Mustard Seed
- 1 Teaspoon Salt
- 1/4 Cup Tamarind Juice
- 1 Tablespoon Butter

Directions
|
Saute onion, garlic and turmeric in oil for 10 minutes. Add broth, split peas, bay leaf, cumin, coriander, cardamom, paprika, mustard seed, salt and tamarind juice. Stir well and bring to a simmer. Simmer for 30 minutes. Stir in butter and serve.
