German   -   Deutsche Pfanne (German Casserole)   adapted from German Cooking

  • 1 Pound Spaghetti -- Cooked
  • 1 Pound Sauerkraut -- Drained
  • 1 Pound Ground Beef
  • 1 Medium Egg -- Beaten
  • 1/2 Cup Rye Bread Crumbs
  • 1/4 Cup Milk
  • 1 Teaspoon Salt
  • 1/2 Teaspoon Sugar
  • 1/2 Teaspoon Pepper
  • 1 Tablespoon Olive Oil
  • 2 Cans Tomatoes -- Chopped
Directions Mix together sauerkraut and cooked noodles. In another bowl, mix beef, bread crumbs, milk, salt, sugar and pepper. Form into 20 meatballs. Saute meatballs in oil until well browned. Add tomatoes and simmer for 10 minutes. Place half the noodle mixture into a baking pan. Add half the meatballs, the remaining noodle mixture and top with the rest of the meatballs. Pour in any remaining sauce. Bake for 1 hour at 350 degrees. Serve.
