Greek   -   Greek Yule Bread   adapted from Ethnic Breads

  • 1 3/4 Teaspoons Active Dry Yeast
  • 3 Cups Bread Flour
  • 1 1/2 Teaspoons Salt
  • 1 1/2 Tablespoons Lemon Zest -- grated
  • 6 Tablespoons Unsalted Butter
  • 3 Tablespoons Honey
  • 1/2 Cup Almonds -- slivered
  • 1 Medium Egg
  • 1 Medium Egg Yolk
  • 1 Cup Milk
  • 2 Tablespoons Milk
  • Topping Ingredients
  • 1 1/2 Tablespoons Almonds
  • 3 Tablespoons Confectioner's Sugar
  • 4 Whole Walnut Halves
Directions add all ingredients for dough in order to machine directions and process accordingly. At the end of the kneading during the final rising. Sprinkle the almonds from the topping on top of the bread. Add the end of the baking cycle, when bread is just cool enough to handle, remove from machine. Mix sugar with a few drops of water and make pourable glaze. Drizzle glaze on bread and decorate with walnut halves.
