Jamaican   -   Chickpea Soup   adapted from island cooking

  • 1 Pound Stewing Meat
  • 8 Cups Water
  • Salt And Pepper -- to taste
  • 1 Can Chickpeas -- drained
  • 2 Medium Potatoes -- peeled and diced
  • 2 Ounces Vermicelli
  • 1/2 Teaspoon Garlic Powder
  • 1/2 Teaspoon Onion Powder
  • 1/4 Teaspoon Cumin
  • 2 Tablespoons Tomato Paste
Directions In a large saucepan, combine stewing meat, water and salt and pepper, bring to boil. reduce heat and cook over medium heat for 1 hour. add chickpeas and potatoes, cook 30 minutes. add spices,vermicelli, and tomato paste simmer 20 minutes until soup is thickened.
Serves 4
