Lebanese   -   Meatballs In Tomato Sauce   adapted from Taste of Lebanon

  • 1 1/2 Pounds Lean Ground Beef -- or lamb
  • 1 Small Onion -- grated
  • 1/4 Teaspoon Allspice
  • Salt And Pepper -- to taste
  • 3 Ounces Pine Nuts
  • 1/2 Cup Olive Oil
  • 2 Large Onion -- chopped
  • 3 Large Ripe Tomatoes
  • 2 Tablespoons Tomato Paste
  • 1 1/2 Cups Water
  • 1/2 Teaspoon Allspice
  • 1 Lemon Lemon Juice
  • Salt And Pepper -- to taste
Directions place ground meat, grated onion, allspice, salt and pepper, mix well in small bowl form in walnut sized balls and set aside. lightly brown pine nuts in oil. remove from oil and set aside. fry onions in same oil until golden brown and set aside separately. place tomatoes, tomato paste and water in same pan and bring to boil over high heat. add lemon juice and remaining ingredients. Add meatballs and browned onions. simmer for 25 to 30 minutes. add just before serving.
